Both Imposing and Inspiring
I arrived in Chamonix, last night, but met Mont Blanc from the bus window as we approached the town. Like a Phoenix rising from a snowy grave rather a pile of ashes, it was an imposing, frightening and awe-inspiring sight. Photo below is the sun rising on it this morning.
Good News and Bad News
And now, there is good and bad news from the Chamonix valley. The forecast is for rain and snow for the next week. A guide from l’Office de la Haute-Montagne said my trail runners were definitely not enough with the coming storms. So I had a decision to make.
Should I take a bus down to Aosta, Italy, leave the TMB and start the VF from there? Or should I buy hiking boots and haul around both runners and boots for 800 – 900 km?
What can I say? C’est la vie. Life rarely goes as planned.
The good news is, I found a pair that fits. I am now the embarrassed owner of Merrell Moab hiking boots. I’d bought a pair, years ago, and really hated them. I’d sworn I’d never buy the brand again.
Goes to show, doesn’t it? Saying never is never a good idea.
Chamonix is an incredibly beautiful mountain town with all of the amenities and paragliding one of the favorite sports. The skies overhead are constantly filled with colourful sails.
